While a CDL license is required to become an authorized driver and specific certifications for operating equipment or machinery, you’re able to learn these skills on the job! Most additional classes or certification processes are supported by employers in heavy highway construction.
Start your career as a driver or an equipment operator and work your way up to becoming a Superintendent or Transportation Director. The opportunities are endless and the heavy highway construction community is dedicated to helping you excel in your career.
There is no college education necessary for this role. All you need is the appropriate license or certification, which employers in heavy highway construction can help you obtain.

      We Build Texas Roads is a partnership between the Texas Asphalt Pavement Association (TXAPA), the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), and the Associated General Contractors of Texas (AGC).
